When the inner nerve of a tooth becomes affected by decay or infection, root canal therapy may be required to restore the tooth. When confronting this type of decay or infection, there are usually just two options: either pull (extract) the affected tooth or save it using root canal therapy. When extracting a tooth, significant and costly dental problems often arise for the adjacent teeth. In the end, extraction may cause more problems than it solves. Root canal therapy is a much more desirable alternative as it will restore function to the tooth and mouth without causing any future problems with adjacent teeth.

After injecting a local anesthetic, we will remove tooth tissues in order to expose the pulp chambers and canals of the tooth. The soft, infected tissues are located in these areas, and we will remove them and clean the tooth. After fillings the tooth with medicated materials, Dr. Parag Kirpekar will cap it with a dental crown.

The restoration that root canal therapy provides will last a lifetime. Following the root canal therapy, a crown may be placed to further protect the tooth. To learn more about a root canal in Parma, Ohio, or your other treatment options, please call our dental office today!
