Through the use of sedation dentistry, several complex treatments can be administered with minimal or zero discomfort at all. Sedation dentistry exists with several varieties and treatment methods to ensure you can have a mild sedation or even experience a deep state of unconsciousness. Depending on your health care needs and the procedures you require, you can determine which form of sedation will work best for you. Common forms of sedation are as follows:

– Gas Sedation: Gas sedation exists through the use of laughing gas, which is administered through a mask so that individuals can remain calm and relaxed during oral health care treatments.

– Pill Sedation: As an adjustable form of sedation where dosages can be easily monitored, pill sedation, also referred to as oral sedation, is applied through ingesting a pill. Pill sedation often takes up to an hour to take effect.

– Intravenous Sedation: For a fast-acting form of sedation, intravenous sedation, also known as IV moderate sedation, is applied directly to your bloodstream. Once the sedative begins to take effect almost immediately, your oral health care procedures can be given.

– General Anesthesia: For the deepest form of sedation, general anesthesia can be used to place a person into a deep state of sleep from which they can remain asleep during treatments so that they can undergo complex oral health care procedures.
